Guitar Player welcomes the return of Southern
groove-rock specialists Tishamingo, who are making
their second San Francisco Bay Area performance,
almost exactly one year after their smoking hot
Guitar Player night debut.
Tishamingo’s twin guitar approach of Jess
Franklin and Cameron Williams fist caught Guitar
Player’s attention when the band released
the whisky-soaked Wear N’ Tear [Magnatude]
in 2005. The two guitarists produce a thick tapestry
of time-honored tones, with Franklin being the
primary soloist and Williams being the primary
vocalist. Williams’ vocals show a Widespread
Panic influence, while Franklin’s soulful
slide style reflects Allman Brothers inspirations.
Tishamingo’s ability to create cool new music
using a classic combination of sounds landed them
in GP’s Buzz section.
The Athens, GA-based outfit has been on the road
growing musically and expanding its audience consistently.
They’ve played the Bonnaroo festival, toured
Europe, and will join Lynryd Skynryd’s Gimmie
Three Days cruise in January 2007. The band’s
highly anticipated new CD produced by John Kurzweg
(Puddle of Mudd, Creed) is now complete and slated
for a late January release.
Bounce on down to the Boom Boom Room to bask in
a new batch of Tishamingo tunes. We expect a generous
helping of old school guitar fireworks from these
ambitious young six-string slingers.
